Paso Fino Futurity
The Fino Futurity program was established by the PFAE in October 2007. The goal of this program is to provide breeders and owners of Paso Fino horses with an opportunity to enhance the value of their stock. This futurity program is similar to very successful programs that are currently in existence in many horse breed organizations in which breeders and owners nominate their weanlings into this program and then pay a nominal yearly fee to maintain eligibility towards a goal of participating in the Five-Year-Old Futurity show classes for a cash purse of considerable value to be divided within three divisions: Classic Fino, Performance and Pleasure. These classes, to be held yearly at a show event in Europe defined by the PFAE board (European Championships or the top show of the year) and purse are open only to four year old Paso Finos that have been nominated into the Futurity program, and have maintained their eligibility.
Participation in this program is simple for the owners and available to all Paso Fino horses for a total fee of Euro 100 payable in 5 yearly instalments of Euro 20 per annum, starting with the initial nomination fee of a weanling. The total of the fees paid for each generation of horses is set up in escrow for that year's program and it is to be fully used, less administrative costs, in the prize money for the classes.
Rules for Nomination and Participation in the Futurity program
Eligibility - Horses: Any Paso Fino that is eligible for registration as a Paso Fino Horse either through the PFHA or any other Paso Fino association or breeding association that is officially permitted to issue certificates of registration and which is acknowledged by the PFAE as such is eligible to be nominated into the Fino Futurity program. If not yet registered at the time that the original nomination is received, a foal must be nominated under its full name, birth date, gender, and sire and dam names. There will be no refund of futurity monies already paid in the event that a registration is denied. Each horse is eligible to be entered in only one of the Futurity classes (Classic Fino, Performance or Pleasure). Horses that have not been enrolled by the breeder/ owner(s) in their weanling year, can be enrolled until December 31st of the year they turned four years for double fees.
Registration: All nominated horses must be registered and the registration application must be received by the PFAE breeding secretary by January 31 of the year following the foaling year in order to maintain eligibility.
Eligibility - Owners: All owners nominating horses into the Fino Futurity program must be current PFAE members at the time that each payment made. Otherwise the fee doubles.
Transfer of Ownership: The nomination of a horse carries with it to a new owner. It is the responsibility of the seller to notify the buyer of the horse's current eligibility and of the payment due dates in order to maintain eligibility in the Futurity program.
Identification: All nominated horses must have full certificates of registrations as a Paso Fino horse.
Fee Schedule: Payment of fees to nominate and maintain eligibility in the Fino Futurity program and appropriate dates are listed below.
Euro 20 per year (total fee Euro 100)
Late or Missed Payments: There will be a grace period of 14 calendar days after payment due date. If payments are missed, there will be a double fee of each payment missed that must be paid to recover eligibility. Failed payments will lead to the horse loosing eligibility with no recourse.
Loss of Eligibility: Other than as stipulated above, if any payments are missed for a specific horse, that horse will loose its eligibility for the Futurity program and will be dropped from it. All fees previously paid will be forfeited with no further obligation from the program to the owner(s).
Payment of Fees: Payments may be made by check, cash or money transfer. All payments must be made payable to the PFAE and addressed to the Futurity Program and state the horse’s name.
Liability: No entry is liable for more than the amount paid in, but there will be no return of payments made for any reason. All nominations and entries are subject to the rules and policies of the PFAE and the Fino Futurity program.
Futurity Show Classes: Program eligible horses are the only ones eligible to participate in the Five-year-old Futurity classes to be held yearly at selective shows (European Championships or the top show of the year). Three classes, open to five-year-old fillies, colts, and geldings, will be offered for this program one each for Classic Fino, Performance and Pleasure. All nominated horses that will be participating in the Futurity classes must follow the class entry procedures for the respective PFAE show offering the Futurity classes. All entries are liable for following all PFAE rules and regulations of that show. Classes are held according to the rules of the show rules defined by the PFAE for these three divisions (see PFAE show rules – Fino Futurity).
Prize Fund: The value of the prize fund of the Futurity Program each year will be the total amount of money paid in fees less the administrative costs.
Disqualification: If any entry is disqualified by the PFAE from the PFAE show offering the Fino Futurity program, then any prize money and awards won by that entry in any Futurity class at that show will be forfeited and turned over to PFAE for redistribution.
Any procedure, policy, or question not covered in these rules will be referred to the breeding secretary responsible for the Futurity program, or the PFAE sports committee for resolution.
